An Interview With Peter Brock

A recent article in Classic Motorsports told Peter Brock's story of being 'front and center' at General Motors in the 1950's when the Corvette was in its design phase. (see https://classicmotorsports.com/articles/peter-brock-refines-the-c2-corvette/)

What caught my eye in the writeup is he started at the ripe young age of 19 years old! Impossible!! How does anyone get such an opportunity? He was deeply engaged at a pivotal moment for Chevrolet. I needed to know what ingredients he brought to the table to get there? Does the same apply for youth today discovering their 'passion' and might dream of one day having an impact involving something they love?

While attending the Monterey Motorsports Reunion this week at Laguna Seca, I heard Peter Brock was here in the vendor row (Brock Racing Enterprises, see https://brelegacy.com/) so I had to ask him!

One point Peter made - he wanted to attend a transportation design school in Los Angeles because he heard of what they were doing there and it resonated for him, but when he was informed he needed to present a portfolio, he asked "what's that?" He'd no idea - he could only see his dream potential taking shape. What to do? He sat in his car drawing for an hour or two, went back and showed the administrators, and the rest is history!

When asked about how we get back to some of those 'glory' days, well, there may be tough times ahead given current economic realities. That said - the ingredients necessary to succeed in your life's vocation are the same that Peter applied in his day, and it can work for you too.
